Seminars & Workshops
Several times through out the year, we hold special self-defense, fitness, and mobility seminars focusing on specific themes.
Parent-Child Safety in Public Seminar (2 hours)

This seminar is designed for the entire family and focuses on teaching parents simple principles to defend themselves and their kids when threatened with an assault while together in public. We will focus on both armed and unarmed defensive tactics, weapons response, and take-over procedures. We will cover concepts like keeping kids at a safe distance behind you if accosted, so the kids don’t get within reach of the assailant. The ability to evaluate risks and threats, and develop counter measures and preventative strategies, including appropriate judgment in the use of force, verbal skills and tactical techniques, will also be covered. Parent-child communication during an emergency or potential emergency, is a point of particular focus in our seminar. Students will experience realistic threat scenarios to deal with and improvise solutions.
Home Invasion Seminar (2 hours)

This seminar is designed for the entire family and focuses on teaching parents simple principles to defend themselves and their kids when threatened by an intruder entering the home—from a burglar not expecting anyone to be home to a violent aggressor prepared to hurt you and your family. This reality-based training seminar will teach what to do when every second counts. We will focus on unarmed response against one or more armed or unarmed intruders. Students will learn how to use everyday objects as defensive weapons. Students will also develop a safety/response plan to be used with their families or roommates.
Active Shooter Seminar (1 to 1.5 hours)

Run! Barricade! Fight!
This seminar will help arm students with knowledge that to enable them to protect themselves and others in the case of violence in the work place or other public space. We will discuss situational awareness and responding quickly to threats. We will go over effective techniques for neutralizing the threat, and for protecting third parties.

Kettlebell 101 Seminar (2 hours)
A kettlebell is a cast-iron or cast steel weight (resembling a cannonball with a handle) used to perform ballistic exercises that combine cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training. Unlike traditional dumbbells, the kettlebell's center of mass is extended beyond the hand, which facilitates ballistic and swinging movements. The kettlebell allows for swing movements and release moves with added safety and added grip, wrist, arm and core strengthening. The unique shape of the kettlebell provides the "unstable force" for handling - key for the effectiveness of the kettlebell exercises.
Hardstyle kettlebell techniques we will cover:
-
Deadlift
-
Swing (two-handed and double)
-
Goblet squat
-
Military Press

Clean

Fight Like Jason Bourne Seminar (2 hours)
Firearm training is great, and in fact, we highly recommend it. However, you never know when you will have to defend yourself or someone you love without your firearm. What if all you have on you is a pen, a half-full water bottle, and an umbrella. Or a hammer. Or a magazine.
Join us at our free seminar to learn how to fight with improvised weapons like Jason Bourne.
Kali is a Filipino martial art based on stick, knife, hand-to-hand, and improvised weapons training, and is sometimes called Arnis or Eskrima*. It is best known as the system used in the fight choreography for the Bourne films**.
Learn techniques for such improvised weapons as:
- a rolled up magazine
- a hammer or tomahawk
- anything stick like, such as an umbrella
- car keys
- a bottle of water
Appropriate attire is: active wear and tennis shoes or flat, non-slip shoes; please note that we will be practicing techniques, so your clothes must allow for a wide range of motion.
Open to men, women, and teens, ages 13 and older.
Attendance is free, but space is limited, so pre-register for a guaranteed spot.
*Kali, Arnis, and Eskrima are not the same, though many people use the terms interchangeably.
**The instructors at Synergy were in no way related to the training of the actors in the Bourne movies, nor do they claim to have been.
